Surf, Wind And Kitesurfing
Cabarete is considered the best location in the Caribbean for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Because of its unique geography and outstanding wind and wave conditions, it is heaven for adventurous water-sport lovers.
Cabarete has been the place for famous international championships like the Kiteboarding World Cup, Master of the Ocean, Windsurf World Cup and Cabarete Race Week. It has received famous international competitors, such as Aaron Hadlow, Ruben Lenten and Gisela Pulido, as well as great Dominican competitors like Luciano González and Tony García.
Outstanding winds, warm waters, large rolling waves, widespread beaches and a mild temperature through out the whole year are some characteristics that make Cabarete a paradise for water-sport enthusiasts of all levels. Beginners can find numerous schools that provide quality lessons from experienced teachers and guides. Whatever your interest, you will be able to find qualified staff to train you or rent you equipment.
Depending on the season, professionals use different types of gear. From December to April you will find light winds and big waves, but from June to September the winds intensify and the waves decrease.
Kite Beach and Cabarate Bay are the two main beaches for practicing kitesurfing and windsurfing. Kite Beach is more popular and also more challenging. The winds blow strongly and consistently toward the east, which makes of this zone a perfect place for experienced surfers to practice diverse techniques and for enthusiasts to watch the artful display of sails and athleticism from the beach. The challenging waves of Cabarete make the Dominican Republic the capital of surfing, windsurfing and kiteboarding in the Caribbean.
